Weird Evangelical Zeal

I like to read insightful books and stuff like that.

Currently reading

Oedipus Rex
Sophocles, J.E. Thomas
Animal Farm
George Orwell

A Doll's House

A Doll's House - Henrik Ibsen You know what? I enjoyed reading this play in school far more than I initially thought. I find it impossible not to appreciate Ibsen's work for its sheer historical importance. GROUND-BREAKING ideas I tell you! I am yet to come to terms with how I feel about the characters but I'm certain in my liking of the play.

I'd go as far as to say it's my favourite play I've ever read.
(That statement may seem rash but keep in mind - the only other plays I've read are a few of Shakespeare's tragedies and a play by a local playwright.)

Fascinating stuff! Genuinely.

Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro Unfortunately, this is one of the cases in which I saw the movie before the book. After watching the film, I grew obsessed with the concept. But when reading the book, it was Kathy's voice that captivated me. Reading her words felt so relaxing.

This book was quite slow-paced. But if anything, that made it even more endearing. The characters are relatable and offer a somewhat new perspective on things. The sci-fi concept is eccentric, without making too much of a fuss over itself.

Beautiful, really beautiful.

Wonder

Wonder - R.J. Palacio An absolute eye-opener. Wonder is such an important book.

Armageddon in Retrospect

Armageddon in Retrospect - Kurt Vonnegut An absolutely wonderful collection of short stories!

Of Mice and Men (Steinbeck Centennial Edition)

Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck Wow.

Everybody Sees the Ants

Everybody Sees the Ants - A.S. King Currently wavering between four and five stars.

This book was absolutely wonderful though!

Egghead: Or, You Can't Survive on Ideas Alone

Egghead: Or, You Can't Survive on Ideas Alone - Chance Bone, Bo Burnham Oh Bo, you never fail to make me smile.

Dead Poets Society

Dead Poets Society - N.H. Kleinbaum (Watch the movie first.)

The Lover's Dictionary: A Novel

The Lover's Dictionary - David Levithan The format of this book was just so beautiful and original. Levithan continues to impress me!

The Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our Stars - John Green The beauty of this book is that it remains just as poignant and powerful every time you read it.

A Monster Calls

A Monster Calls - Patrick Ness, Jim Kay The writing and the illustrations alike make this book an unforgettable, heart-breaking and beautiful tale for all readers.

Fortunately, the Milk

Fortunately, the Milk - Neil Gaiman, Skottie Young Simply delightful!

Although I have admired Gaiman for many years, this was my first time reading any of his books - and it did not disappoint. It is perhaps the wittiest and most creative story I've read in a while.

Just One Day

Just One Day - Gayle Forman What can I say? It left a stain.

Othello (Folger Shakespeare Library)

Othello - William Shakespeare 3.5/5. (Studied in school)

Although I'm not sure spoilers count for Shakespeareans here is a warning.

I failed to care much as each character slipped from the story, one by one. However, Shakespeare's use of dramatic irony was absolutely fantastic. And it must be said, whilst the other characters were mundane, Iago was a great villain. (He couldn't replace my good old Shylock though)

Actually, I liked Emilia too. Pity that marriage didn't work out too well in the end.

Ender's Game (Ender, Book 1)

Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card Orson Scott Card may not be the best person, but he sure does know how to write a good book.

Delirium (Delirium (Quality))

Delirium - Lauren Oliver I thought this book was beautiful. It had an interesting concept, beautiful imagery and a good plot line.

However, there were two many questions left unanswered. From small things like, how Lena got home with a bitten leg during the raids to things like how/why the government decided love was a disease. I would have really appreciated a little bit more of a backstory - hopefully pandemonium will provide me with some insight.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. If you're into dystopian novels with a romantic element I would most definitely read this book.
